
The Long Beach Branch NAACP mourns the loss of Lifetime and Golden Heritage Member, Bobbie Smith. The first African-American to be elected to the Long Beach Unified School District Board where she completed four terms as Board President, she leaves a tremendous legacy of equality, women’s rights and social justice. Smith had also held the title of President of the National Council of Negro Women, was the recipient of numerous local and national organizations, and worked as a librarian at Long Beach City College for over 20 years. Smith’s legacy leaves an indelible mark on the Long Beach Community.
