Taryn Allen is a new intern at the Long Beach Branch NAACP currently working on the Holiday Toys and Gift Cards project for children in need. She was drawn to this internship out of a wish to put her knowledge and skills to use in work that might create an impact on people and out of an interest in understanding how a nonprofit organization functions. Taryn is a senior at CSULB, majoring in English Literature and minoring in Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, and Ceramics. Taryn has an interest in social justice and often writes about representations of race and gender in literature in her academic work. In her free time, she enjoys reading fantasy novels and listening to music. Taryn likes to challenge herself to learn new things and wants to learn to play the guitar and has also recently picked up roller skating as a new hobby. She does not yet know what she would like to do after graduating college but hopes that whatever work she chooses will make meaningful contributions to the communities she becomes a part of. She also hopes to one day create her own home ceramics studio to be able to continue her love for creating wheel-thrown ceramic art.
