The 2020 LB NAACP Veteran Honorees are Darrell Lambert Jr., Matt Marshall, Alexander Dixon Jr., 90 Year-Old Elmer Erdmann, Korean War, and Robert Ortiz Anchila, Army Paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division.
The Long Beach Branch NAACP will host a special tribute to Veterans, past and present, November 15, 2020 from 2:30 to 4 PM at the Zoom General Membership Meeting. The 2020 honorees are Darrell Lambert Jr. of the Navy, a current LB Police Officer, Matt Marshall of the Army, also a LB Police Officer, and Alexander Dixon Jr. of the Air Force, a retired LB City Employee. There will be a brief special talk by Robert Ortiz Anchila, an Army Paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division who will share his story of resiliency and recovery through help from the Veterans Administration, and his education at CSULB, including Project Rebound. Robert was an honorably discharged, decorated soldier. After leaving the military, he suffered severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), became an alcoholic, homeless, and was jailed and incarcerated for three and a half years. With the love of God, support of his family, and the utilization of the VA and Project Rebound at CSULB, he is living a productive life again.
The NAACP invites the community, especially veterans who served our country, past or present, to join the Zoom LB NAACP meeting and program. The purpose of this program is to thank the men and women who served in the military to protect our country. The NAACP believes it is extremely important that we recognize our veterans and keep their stories, issues, and plight they face every day in our conscience. The LB Branch NAACP also thanks the veterans and their families for the sacrifices they make for the security of our country.
To honor a past or current veteran, please email email@example.com with their name, rank, branch of service, and a photo (not required) to LB NAACP by Friday 10 AM. This meeting is open to the public.
