Long Beach Vaccines Update

COVID-19 Vaccine

Dear Long Beach Residents,

We have reached an important step in the fight against COVID-19. Although we continue to see rapid spread and significant impacts to our hospitals, as well as tragic deaths nationwide, we have some reason for optimism as vaccines are now beginning to be available.

To get an appointment link for a City vaccine clinic please reach out to the City via email at COVID19Vaccine@longbeach.gov or call 562.570.INFO (4636), option 6.

The COVID-19 vaccine is one of the most important tools we have available to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Long Beach began receiving COVID-19 vaccines in late December and has started vaccinating those at highest risk for getting COVID-19. Over time, when more vaccines are available, it will be offered to everyone. This will likely take months and vaccines will not be widely available to the general public until Spring/Summer 2021.

We will continue to receive vaccines until everyone in Long Beach who wants to be vaccinated is vaccinated either through the City, your health provider or a pharmacist.

Following State guidelines, the City is using a system to vaccinate groups based on the risk of getting COVID-19 or becoming very sick from the disease. Right now, vaccines in Long Beach are being made available to individuals in two phases, and multiple tiers until vaccines becomes more widely available. This system is likely to change as we adapt to State vaccine supply and demand, and other factors.

Current Groups Being Vaccinated:

• Healthcare workers

• Public Health Field Staff

• Emergency Medical Services personnel (paramedics and EMTs)

• Emergency Services

• Adults aged 65 and older

Upcoming Groups:

• Food Service Workers (you will be notified to make an appointment through your employer) – Clinics begin Tuesday, January 19

• Education Sector (you will be notified to make an appointment through your employer) – Clinics begin Monday, January 25

Before making an appointment through the City vaccine clinics, people should first contact their healthcare provider for vaccine availability. Large medical providers have direct access to the vaccine for older adults.
