Dr. Jill Baker was unanimously appointed to the position of superintendent of LBUSD and took the reins on August 1st. She is the first woman to hold this position in the district’s 135-year history. The position is new for her, however, she is not new to LBUSD or the Long Beach community.
LB NAACP has had a long relationship with Dr. Baker, a member, during her tenure in LBUSD. She has supported the NAACP to engage students, families, the African American community, and other communities of color to engage with the school district. She is also open to input from the various publics and communities LBUSD serve. Long Beach Branch NAACP applauds her selections and asks the community to join the NAACP in helping Dr. Baker and LBUSD carry out the best education plan for every child of the district regardless of race, creed, color or other diversity and discrimination factors
